Scent

How to make scented candles?

A scented candle is the right fragrance load on the right base. Soya Wax 50 has an oil saturation of ~8%; weigh the fragrance after taking the 51–55°C melt off the heat. Without a cure, the scent stays weak.

Getting Started

How to make container candles?

A container candle is poured into glass/a jar and is not unmolded. Rufus Soya Wax 50 is for this job. Fix the wick to the base, use a double boiler, add the fragrance after the heat, and cure.

Problem

Why does a candle sink?

A dip in the middle with a high edge: air remains as the wax shrinks. Cool slowly without drafts; a second pour with the same recipe fills it. A fridge causes cracks.

Problem

Why does a candle soot?

Soot is most often the wick drawing too much fuel: a long tip, a thick size, a draft, or fragrance/dye beyond oil saturation. Trim the wick to ~5 mm, cut the draft and weigh the load.

Frequently Asked Questions

What supplies do I need to start candle making?

A basic kit needs soy wax or paraffin, wick, wick sticker, fragrance, dye, and a mold or vessel. You can source everything from the Rufus Concept catalog in one place.

What is the difference between soy wax and paraffin?

Soy wax is plant-based, burns cleaner, and holds scent well. Paraffin is more economical and often preferred for harder candles. Choose either from stock based on your production goal.

At what temperature does soy wax melt?

Rufus Soy Wax 50 melts around 51–55°C. Melt in a double boiler and follow the range on the product page.

How many candles from 1 kg of soy wax?

It depends on vessel fill. In roughly 200 ml vessels, 1 kg makes about 5–6 candles. See our detailed yield guide.

How fast do orders ship?

In-stock items usually ship within 1–2 business days. Orders above the free-shipping threshold ship free.

Can I place wholesale or studio orders?

Yes. Studio and maker orders can buy by quantity. Reach us by phone or WhatsApp for technical help and product selection.

What is soy wax?

A plant candle base made from soybean oil. Rufus Soy Wax 50 is flake form, melting about 51–55°C; stocked for container candles.

At what temperature should fragrance be added?

It depends on the wax. Soy Wax 50 melts at 51–55°C; add fragrance after removing from heat. For paraffin, follow the higher band on the product notes.

What are candle making supplies?

Wax (soy or paraffin), wick, fragrance, optional dye, vessel or mold, scale, and a double boiler. Our guide lists the steps.

Why does a candle tunnel?

The wick is too thin or the first burn is too short. Trim to ~5 mm and burn until the melt pool reaches the edge. If it persists, try one size thicker.

Is Rufus Concept in Bursa?

The warehouse is in Nilüfer / Bursa. We ship from stock across Turkey. Wholesale lists are shared via WhatsApp or phone.

Why does a candle sink in the middle?

Fast cooling or trapped air can leave a dip. Cool slowly; top up with a second pour of the same wax if needed.

Why is my candle weak on scent?

Fragrance load may be low, cure time short, or tunneling may limit throw. On Soy Wax 50 use 6–10% (cap ~8%) and cure 48 hours to 1 week.

Why does my candle keep going out?

The wick is wet, buried, or too thin; tunneling and drafts also kill the flame. Trim dry to ~5 mm and bring the pool to the edge.

How should a candle be burned?

Trim the wick to ~5 mm. On the first burn, keep it lit until the melt pool reaches the edge; short burns cause tunneling. Wait at least 24 hours after pouring.

Why is the candle flame weak?

The wick may be short/thin, or dye and fragrance may clog it. Keep a dry ~5 mm tip, dye ~1%, fragrance cap ~8% on Soy Wax 50.

How do I make a vegan candle?

Skip paraffin and beeswax. Use Soy Wax 50, cotton or wood wick, and oil-based fragrance. Double boiler ~51–55°C, fragrance 6–10%.

Why does a wooden wick crackle?

Wood combustion crackles. Prime it in wax first and leave ~5 mm dry tip. An oily tip stays quiet.

How much stearic acid should I add?

Follow the SKU note and mold tests. Weigh into paraffin; do not add blindly to Soy Wax 50 container pours.

How do I choose a glass candle vessel?

Heat-safe, crack-free glass. Size the wick to inner diameter. Soy Wax 50 ~51–55°C, fragrance 6–10%.

How should a candle be extinguished?

Do not blow hard. Snip with scissors or a snuffer; on lidded glass, close the lid. Leave a dry ~5 mm tip.

Why is my candle smoking?

Long wick, draft, or blowing it out. Trim to ~5 mm. Soot is black residue; smoking is visible smoke.

How many tealights from 1 kg?

Dozens depending on net grams per cup. Use a scale; do not copy a 200 ml soy formula to tealights.

How do I use a wick holder?

Stick the wick base in the center, seat the holder on the rim, then pour. After cooling, trim to ~5 mm.

How do I choose candle matches?

Use long sticks for deep vessels. First-burn time is separate; matches only light the wick.

Why does a pillar candle lean?

Demolding too early or soft soy. Paraffin holds firmer. Drip is runoff; lean is body shift.

What mm wooden wick should I use?

Pick mm by inner diameter. Cotton wick sizes do not map to wood. Test burn Soy Wax 50 containers.

Why do I need a candle thermometer?

Soy Wax 50 is ~51–55°C. Guessing spoils oil saturation and fragrance. Use a double boiler, no open flame.

How do I space dual wicks?

Keep both wicks equal to the edge and each other. Pour recipe is separate. Soy Wax 50 for containers.

Why does the candle heat the glass?

Wick too thick or a draft. Tip ~5 mm. Glass choice and soot are separate topics.

How do I do a second pour?

Fill the dip with the same Soy Wax 50 at ~51–55°C. Causes of sinking are covered separately.

Why does soy wax pricing change?

By SKU and quantity. No memorized TL price—check the catalog.
