Additive
How much stearic acid should be added?
The percentage of stearic acid depends on the SKU note and a mold test. It is weighed and added to paraffin; it is not part of the Soya Wax 50 container recipe. Do not copy the soy 51–55°C band to stearin.
-
Read the SKU
The percentage is in the product note. There is no memorized ratio. Weigh a small batch; note demolding and shrinkage.
-
Add it to the paraffin
Stir the stearic acid into melted paraffin. Double boiler, no direct flame. Do not add it blindly to Soya Wax 50.
-
Mold test
Demolding after cooling, opacity and cracks. Too much additive makes it brittle. Wick and burn are tested separately.
Do not mix with soy
Container scent is done with Soya Wax 50 (~51–55°C, oil saturation ~8%). Stearic is a paraffin mold matter. The what-it-does guide is separate.
Opacity
Stearin makes the color look milkier. Do not add it for a clear gel or soy look.
FAQs
Is the same percentage right for every paraffin?
No. SKU and mold vary. A small test, a scale.
Can stearic alone be a candle?
No. It is an additive. The base is paraffin or the relevant SKU blend.
